When have you felt the most alive?

It certainly wasn't last Sunday afternoon around lunchtime - because that was right around the point at which you stopped enjoying the weekend and starting thinking about work on Monday morning.

It might have been when you bought that new car or got that huge plasma TV, although that 'alive' feeling probably only lasted as long as it took for the monthly repayment schedule to start.

And whatever you do, don't confuse the feeling of being 'alive' with that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach as the mail arrives or the start of the month comes round again - because my friend that feeling is despair as you realise that once again there's more month than money.

I know because I've not only been there, I've seen it from both sides - broke and financially secure....and let me tell you that broke does not fix itself - it only gets worse.

If the above felt familiar at all it's because most people feel the same way. They can't remember the last time they felt exhilarated by life - in fact most people are scared by their current financial position and have forgotten that life is all about living. There is no denying it right now the majority of us are feeling the pinch of the recession and it creates a perfect time for us to re-think our plans for the future. Being successful is a very big part of this and once you want to see it happen it is easier than you think:

I'm not kidding - life shouldn't be about being afraid to open your credit card statement or having to take overtime at work to make ends meet.

You should be taking the time to watch your children grow (because if you miss it, you can't go back in a time machine with Michael J Fox) my children are between the ages of 12 and 19 so I know how quickly it moves from being that gorgeous baby in your arms to calling you Daddy as they want a lift to a party. We also love the idea of spending the afternoon in bed with our spouse or partner but with today's working hours it simply isn't going to happen. You should be learning how to be successful and putting failure on top the bonfire instead of assuming things will be better next year.

I went fishing recently, and I vividly remember a certain Friday morning with the sun shining down on the river and a nice breeze as I enjoyed the day ahead of me...

I could see a long road from the river bank, busy with traffic. I watched the cars rushing up and down the road as people went to work, and I felt alive because I was doing exactly,  what I wanted to be doing at that very moment, rather than going somewhere or doing something that someone else - usually your employer - demands you do for around 40 hours a week.

...and we're talking irreplaceable life moments here...

There's only one solution, and that's spending every moment of your life doing exactly what YOU want to do, until your particular story winds to it's end. Let me tell you - when my time is up I'll have a smile on my face as I will remember feeling alive.

But of course to live your life feeling like this - doing what you want to do and not having to answer to anyone else requires success.

And that's where I come in....
